'The Sabbath'

In a world that never stops, have you ever considered taking a Sabbath?

Sabbath is a practise of taking a break from the day to day grind. An intentional, sacred pause—a day set aside for rest, reflection, and renewal.
It’s a practise I have been doing since 2008 and it has been a complete game changer for my wellbeing. The thing I enjoy most is the rest for my thought life. The concerns, the worries and stresses- I lay them all down for a 24 hour period. It’s become a rhythm in my week that I genuinely look forward to. It grounds me. It reminds me that I’m not defined by how much I produce, but by who I am and Whose I am.
Some weeks, I enter the Sabbath feeling depleted, distracted, or weary. But almost without fail, I come out of it refreshed—mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Here are just a few benefits I’ve discovered:
It restores perspective. Slowing down helps me to see what really matters again.
It deepens my connection with God. With fewer distractions, I’m more available to listen, reflect, and simply be with Him.
It nourishes relationships. Whether I spend the time with family, friends, or in solitude, it’s a time to be present and intentional.
It breaks the cycle of hurry. In a culture that values hustle, Sabbath reminds me that rest is not weakness—it’s wisdom.
If you’ve never tried a Sabbath before, I’d encourage you to experiment with it. Start small. Be intentional. You don’t have to do it “perfectly.” Just pause. Rest. Delight.
You might be surprised by how much you need it—and how much it gives back.
