Taking the first step toward counselling is a brave, life-giving decision. It’s an act of self-love that says, "I am worth the investment." But we know that finding the right person to walk beside you can feel a little overwhelming. How do you know who is the "right fit"?
Look for Professional Standards
In Australia, you want to ensure your counsellor is held to high ethical and educational standards. Look for memberships with peak bodies like the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), PACFA, or the Christian Counsellors Association of Australia (CCAA).
Everyone in our team is registered with ACA so we are all are required to adhere to a strict code of conduct and ethical practices, have ongoing professional development and regualr supervision.
The Magic of the "Discovery Call"
Many of us offer a short, no-obligation "Discovery Call." This isn't a full session; it’s a vibe check! It’s a chance for you to see if there’s a "click."
Do you feel heard?
Is the tone encouraging?
Does their approach feel like a match for your heart?
Safety is Everything
Research shows that the relationship between you and your counsellor is the biggest predictor of success. If you don't feel safe, you can't truly open up. You deserve a space that feels affirming and protective of your journey.
Reflect on this today:
What does "safety" feel like in my body when I talk to someone new?
What is one specific hope I have for my healing journey?
Am I ready to take a small, brave step and book a chat?
Resh, one our amazing counsellors/supervisors has opened his books for providing counselling. If you would like to arrange a discovery call with him please reach out to us and we can arrange it at admin@suzannebocking.com
You are doing great work just by being here. Keep pushing( your growth is worth it.)
Warmly,
Suzanne and the team.
